What is Nutrition Therapy?

Nutrition Therapy is practiced in various atmospheres throughout many different healthcare facilities. Here at Xcel Movement and Performance, we will meet for one-on-one counseling sessions to provide individualized recommendations to best accommodate your lifestyle.  The connection between mind and body is too significant to treat one part independent of the other. We are emotionally tied to our food – whether it’s for a taste reason or a control reason, there needs to be balance. Together, we will work on both the psychological and physiological aspects of overall health and how it ties into daily living. The key is to detach your emotions from food and body in order to regain trust and intuition in your eating and exercise routine. Once we get passed that, we are able to develop an individualized plan that best suits your needs, goals, and lifestyle.


Is Nutrition Therapy for You?

I believe training should come second to how we fuel our bodies. Daily food consumption, the composition, the amount, and the frequency bear great effect on overall health. While on paper that may sound simple to manage, I am fully aware that sometimes, if not most of the time, it most definitely is not. I believe eating is about more than just food. Sure, green smoothies are great and a hefty salad is awesome, but achieving and maintaining wellness is less about that and more about your habits, lifestyle, and relationship with food. Together, we’ll dive into any and all issues that may impact your overall health and well-being. We will examine not just your current dietary pattern, but also your lifestyle, stressors, and relationship with food. I do not believe in diets, nor will I suggest any. Each person is made from a unique mixture of biology, genetics, and psychology. As your dietitian, we will work together to figure out what a balanced eating pattern looks like for YOU, and determine what food makes YOU feel best. Just as important as what you eat, is how you eat. I integrate techniques from mindful and intuitive eating that will equip you with the skills needed to honor your hunger, know when to stop eating, and how to choose foods that truly nourish your body and soul. In combination with the nutrition piece, we will evaluate if you’re a good candidate for additional services that Xcel Movement and Performance has to offer. Our services will keep you healthy and active to achieve an overall balanced lifestyle.
